It's A Starry Night For Blue Monday

Vincent Van Gogh painted a beautiful painting in 1889 called "A Starry Night." That painting serves as the inspiration for one of my favorite Cow Parade cows, "Starry, Starry Cow" (Kansas City, 2001.) This painting also inspired a beautiful song, "Vincent" by Don McLean. Click here to listen to this song.

"Starry Cow" gets to be today's cow-of-the-day because, of course, she is blue and it is Monday. She also is here to commemorate the lovely date Bob and I had Saturday night. We spent a fun-filled evening with our friends from his company. They were celebrating 25 years of being in business. Any excuse for a good time will do as far as I am concerned, but I have to admit this was an auspiscious occasion. We boarded the Solaris about 6:oo; that's when they took the picture of us. We enjoyed a lovely cruise for several hours. The dinner and the music were very nice and the sky was full of stars. It was a starry, starry night of fun!

While I am on the subject of stars, have you ever heard of star fruit? Nancy, my friend and mother-in-law, picked one from a tree in her backyard and gave it to me. She told me how to prepare it. Those little stars are so cute. I was so impressed with this star fruit that I made a delicious fruit salad with it. I even saved six seeds, so maybe I'll be able to grow my own star fruit tree. I did some research (how did we ever live without the internet?) and found out it's other name is carambola. Check it out if you are in the mood for some exotic fruit.

Here is my fruit salad. It has star fruit, watermelon, cantelope, honeydew, and blueberries.

"A Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh is on display now at the Museum of Modern Art in New
York City. I wish I could go see it. Since I can't go to New York today, I think I'll go see some more exciting Blue Monday blogs. Why don't you join me? Click right here and you'll find yourself at Smiling Sally's Blogspot, the home of Blue Monday.
Have a safe and happy Blue Monday!

Good, good morning, oh, lover of stars!
I so enjoyed your posting today.
The cow is adorable!
I've seen many prints of Stary Night...his paintings always are so different!
The cruise must have been so much fun. Hubby and I took one once in New Orleans...it was a daytime one and we saw so many hugh plantations and other interesting things. I would love to do one at night.
Happy Blue Monday.

Oh, Lucky you, to have a daughter for a hairdresser! :) I'm trying to talk Ashley into that! LOL! She worked at the salon this summer as a receptionist, and that seems to be "her thing." But she is only 15, so we will just have to see! :) ~Rhonda

I am the proud owner of this cow as well, as I just love that painting. I was in NYC over the summer and was so excited to see this painting. Imagine my dismay when I realized I was at the wrong museum. LOL Maybe I'll see it next time. :-)

I love those cows! I have seen similar exhibits in Saint Joseph, Michigan. They did carousel horses one year, and bears another year. There was a horse done in the theme of Starry Night, and it was located on Elm Street. They titled it "Night Mare on Elm Street," lol. Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings! I sure enjoyed your Blue Monday post!

Dearest Grandma Faith ( I love calling you that).
You remind me of my husbands wonderful mom. She passed away a little over a year now, and I miss her soooo much.

Great post - and you look gorgeous in your picture.

My son has a print of this at his house. Van Gogh is one of his favorites.

And, Vincent has always been a favorite song for me. Thanks for the link. I am listening now, and it is a nice start to my day. The music is so beautiful, and the lyrics are incredibly moving. Of course, I love Don McLean.
